The Museum at the
Gateway Arch

At hsd we are eagerly awaiting the July 2018 opening of the new Museum at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

The new museum will describe the westward expansion of the United States with new, more inclusive narratives with a focus on St. Louis’ role in this era of the country’s history. Interactive galleries guide visitors through time, from the mid-1600’s to the present.

The new expansion includes the following galleries: Colonial St. Louis, Jefferson’s Vision, Manifest Destiny, The Riverfront Era, New Frontiers, and Building the Gateway Arch which explore topics that include nation building and identity, immigration and migration, democracy and civil rights, and relationships and vision.

In the tram lobby, where visitors wait to go up the Gateway Arch, a 100-foot-wide media wall will show videos of the building of the Arch and scenes of American history and innovation.

The construction of the new glass entrance to the visitor centre and museum below the Gateway Arch is nearly complete and the exhibitions are currently being installed. hsd continues to work very closely with the project team to create a unique, memorable and provocative experience that is accessible to all.
