The Leicester Cathedral Revealed project, has successfully secured the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund for its round II bid, May 2019. hsd is providing Interpretative Design and Management services for the new exhibits.
The project will help to restore and reveal the Victorian and Arts and Crafts heritage, create a series of accessible and engaging spaces, better manage visitor flow and improve the overall visitor experience on the Cathedral site.
There will be a new Heritage Learning Centre built on the footprint of the 1930s Song School. A vibrant orientation gallery and hospitality space will house contemporary graphics, digital projection, hands-on interactives and themed artefact and co-curated displays.
Visitors will be encouraged to explore the cathedral spaces and discover for themselves its many unique and significant features. Led by an audio guide, the compelling cathedral story spanning one and a half millennia will be revealed, with an emphasis on people stories past and present.
Work is expected to begin on site in early 2020 and is anticipated to be completed by 2022.
