hsd is proud to be participating in the 2019 edition of the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico, one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world, uniting local and international artists in a unique event featuring music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and film.
This year, Canada is the guest country, and Canadian artists are presenting their work in multiple venues around the city as well as in Casa Canada, the headquarters for the activities coordinated by the Canadian embassy in Mexico with the support of Canadian Heritage. Comprised of exhibitions, screenings, conversation and workshops, the programming at Casa Canada focuses on sharing and creating awareness of Canadian talent and identity in Mexico.
In this context, we were invited to lead a workshop about museological approaches with professionals from the cultural sector at Casa Canada, in partnership with the Museo Regional de Guanajuato Alhondigas de Granaditas and the Instituto Estatal de la Cultura de Guanajuato. During the session, we’ll compare museological methodologies between Canada and Mexico with our colleagues from local museums finding commonalities and differences in our approaches to creating exhibitions.
With this workshop, we endeavour to begin a dialogue and explore different working methods to nurture our practice with input from our Mexican peers and to open space for future collaborations. Following the workshop, we will host a reception event on the rooftop of Casa Canada with a view of beautiful Guanajuato to celebrate the cross-pollination of museum experience and the ongoing bilateral relations between Canada and Mexico.
This initiative was made possible with the support of CanExport Canada.
