Bunratty Castle & Folk Park

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park is a significant and unique historic site for the discovery, exploration and enjoyment of the history of Ireland. Set across 26 acres of lush green landscape, this impressive site contains the 15th century Bunratty Castle, the early 19th century Bunratty House, Ardcroney Church and a large collection of re-located 19th century traditional Irish buildings, including cottages, shops, a doctor’s house, a school, a post office and a pub, known collectively as the ‘Folk Park’.

hsd have been commissioned by Shannon Heritage, to provide compelling interpretative and design consultancy services for a large re-development project, subject to approval by Fáilte Ireland, that includes the reinterpretation of Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, Ireland’s largest tropical butterfly house and, Ireland’s first 4D 270 degree immersive experience.

A key aim for this heritage project is to bring together the various areas of the site to present a holistic visitor experience, utilising technology effectively to bring the attraction to life. Fundamental to this development is the introduction of a new immersive AV experience, that will transport visitors to the significant moments in the history of Bunratty in a memorable show unique to Bunratty.

The new marketable experience will become a magnet, drawing increased numbers of visitors and adding significantly to Ireland’s reputation as an international holiday destination with world class storytelling is at the core.
