The Postal Museum and Mail Rail

By using the latest design techniques blended with traditional exhibition media and iconic collection displays, this exciting new addition to London’s cultural landscape reveals stories from one of Britain’s most iconic and remarkable services. Visitors to the new Postal Museum are taken through five interactive zones, leading them through centuries of innovation and changing in the way Britain has sent and received post.

The Postal Museum is also home to Mail Rail, a new and unique ride transporting visitors back in time through the disused miniature tunnels of the world’s first driverless, electric railway which was used to transport mail under the capital.

Newly-commissioned trains take passengers on a journey deep under London’s streets to explore this engineering marvel. Stopping at two platforms along the way, stories of the postal service are projected onto the tunnel walls and platforms using dynamic 3D mapping.

Five years ago, hsd embarked on this interpretative journey with The Postal Museum. We have worked collaboratively with the project team to share the stories of the postal service and it is fantastic to see the museum open to the public.
